If you can not easily clear the personal information do not be
concerned. We will clear all data from every phone received. If the
phone can not be turned on then we will open the phone and
electronically destroy the memory chips that contain your personal
information. We have proprietary programs that allow us to return
all phones to their original new shipped state with no programs
information or data remaining from the previous owner.
If you are still concerned do a Google search with your phone
model number and clear data. Usually there is a way to clear data by
the owner. Optionally you can use the Inquire form to send us the
model information and we will email you instructions.
The ESN or MEID is the identification used to register your phone
with your cell service provider. You should be able to locate this
on a tag near or under the phone battery. If you can not locate it
and still want us to track your phone and report back to you then
simply include a note taped to the phone.
Every phone is processed once we receive it. We first log the
phone in along with the original owner information only if there is
a request for payment or disposition information. Owner
information is not tracked or logged in unless specifically
requested. Each phone is then hooked up and the data is
wiped clean, if the phone can not be powered up then we disassemble
it and destroy the data chips. Phones are then evaluated for
operation and physical appearance. Phones that fail the
appearance and operational tests are fully disassembled and or
recycled. If a phone is operational and meets minimum appearance
standards then it is checked for its ability to be activated. Any
phone that can not be activated is sent out for a donation (where
they can use the phone for emergency calls. All GMS phones are
turned in for donations. Some phones where a customer had requested
money for the phone or if it holds exceptional value will be sold to
wholesalers and may be sold to the public. Phones that are sold
require us to perform several testing and service steps to ensure
operation and represent a substantial cost. Sold phones keeps us in
operation so we can provide our services for free. If a phone can be
returned to use even if it takes parts from several phones it is
less of an impact on the environment.
Every cell phone and for that matter almost everything electronic
contains chemicals that should not be placed in landfills. Cell
phones are potentially hazardous waste because they contain lead,
mercury, cadmium and arsenic. If thrown in the trash and sent to
incinerators or landfills, environmental contamination can occur
from combustion and leaching into soil and groundwater. We recycle
everything including chargers, boxes, manuals, cd's, cables,
headsets, batteries and the phones.
